Job Description
The Semi-Truck Body Technician is responsible for repairing and restoring the exterior and structural components of semi-trucks. This includes bodywork, panel replacement, fiberglass work, and refinishing. The technician ensures all work meets safety standards and restores vehicles to pre-accident condition or better.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural and cosmetic repairs to semi-truck bodies, including cab, doors, panels, bumpers, and fenders
- Replace or repair damaged sheet metal, fiberglass, and plastic components
- Weld metal parts using MIG, TIG, and/or arc welding processes
- Sand, prime, and refinish surfaces for painting; may assist with paint prep or painting
- Remove and install truck body parts and accessories (lights, mirrors, grilles, etc.)
- Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer and DOT safety standards
- Collaborate with estimators and supervisors to review damage reports and determine repair plans
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace and follow all safety guidelines
- Complete all paperwork and documentation related to work performed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; vocational training or I-CAR certification preferred
- 3+ years of experience in heavy-duty truck or auto body repair
- Proficiency in welding, grinding, and cutting techniques will be a plus
- Understanding of DOT and OEM standards for commercial vehicle repairs
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, repair manuals, and technical diagrams
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Exposure to dust, fumes, and loud equipment in a body shop setting
- Requires lifting up to 75 lbs, standing, kneeling, and climbing
- Must wear appropriate PPE (gloves, goggles, respirators when necessary)
